Classes

                        We host a variety of classes for all skill levels. 

 Central Iowa Free Quilters Society -  Saturday, August 24, 9 am to ? - Adel Library

Quilter's gather to use up scraps and share scrappy quilt making ideas. There will be a "sharing table" for scraps that may no longer serve you but will go well in someone else's scrappy quilt. Class is free but call to register as seating is limited.

Quilted Tote Bag Class - Sunday, August 25, 1 to 3 pm - in the shop

Flo Welch will teach this class featuring her own pattern, Karmen's Tote. This class is in the shop and does not require sewing machines. It is free but the kit is required. Call soon to reserve your kit and register for the class. Learn machine quilting tips, handle making tips, squaring bag corners and more.

Applique with Back Basting, Saturday July 13, 10 am to noon

Bonnie Nelsen will teach this class at the Adel Library.  Many of you know Bonnie as one of the best at hand applique' in the area. She recently won Best of Show on her applique' quilt at the Iowa State Fair (see winning quilt below). In addition, now retired, Bonnie was formerly a school teacher.  This is a great opportunity.

Class fee is $35 and pre-registration is required.

 

 Making a "Free" Quilt - Saturday, June 8, 10 am to noon and Saturday, September 14, 1 to 3 pm. Let's have some fun!

Julia Swallow will walk students through everything you need to know about making a "free" quilt with all those leftover parts and pieces that you have already paid for, laying around your sewing room from former quilt projects. 

June 8 is the class at the Adel Library with a fee of just $5. Guests will each be given a $5 coupon to use at the shop that day so, it's still a free quilt!

September 14 is the reunion where guests will be challenged to return with their Free Quilt completed, including a piece of fabric they will be given in the June class. There will be prizes for completed quilts!

 

 Sisters of the Cloth - 2019

We invite you to this series of three classes held at the Adel Library 10 am to noon:

July 20,  September 14, and November 16.  Quilters and friends gather to learn and listen.

Hand sewing is provided or you may choose to bring your own or to just enjoy the company and the featured speaker. 
 
Each meeting will include: 

  • Hand sewing supplies with the option of learning English Paper Piecing.

  • Discussion on the history of the women that came before us and their quilts.

  • Quilt show and tell  of your quilts and ours with focus on vintage quilts 

  • Door prizes, free patterns and refreshments  

  • Commemorative block exchange 

Pre-register required. 

 

   Ladies of the Lake Quilt Retreat

Each year, we sponsor two back to back fall quilt retreats and one spring retreat at Lake Panorama. We teach a variety of quilting techniques at these retreats. Check the retreat page for more detail. 

 

   Open Sew

Open Sew is held the 2nd or 3rd Thursday and Friday of each  month.  Quilters gather at the Adel Library for a day of stitching and chatting, no fee and no pre-registration required.

Unless otherwise noted, all classes are held in the spacious conference room of the Adel Public Library, 1/2 block south of the shop and requires pre-registration.

Class Cancellation Policy:  A refund is given for an class cancellation 7 days or more prior to the scheduled date.  Class fee is forfeited for cancellations received less than 7 days prior.  Full refund is given if the shop cancels for any reason.
